The first ever Chevrolet Global Indian Music Awards(GIMA) were held on 5th December 2010 in Mumbai, and honoured the talent across Film and Non-Film music with the vision of giving different music genius the same platform, importance and recognition.Renowned singer and music director Shankar Mahadevan paid the tribute to the Melody Queen and the Living Legend Lata Mangeshkar. Salman Khan with Sonakshi Sinha performed on the Dabangg  Hits.Kareena Kapoor enthralled the audience with her superb performance. Also,Saif Ali Khan was seen on strings and performed for the audience with Pritam. Sonu Nigam was amazing with his mimic act on great singers like A-R Rehman, Shankar, Pritam, Adnan Sami and others.

A total of 29 awards under Film and non-film categories were presented .The best film album & best lyricist award was awarded to ‘3 Idiots’.

 ‘Wake Up Sid‘ by Karan Johar took three awards, for best playback singer (Female), best film song – ‘Iktara’ and Hindustan Times readers choice award for singer Kavita Seth for ‘Iktara’.

 ‘Kaminey’ too managed to score a hat trick, for the best music director, the song ‘Dhan Te Nan‘ received the most popular caller tune award.The film also got best music arranger and programmer award.
