The 2010 Pakistan flood overshadowed the extensive destruction of 2004 Tsunami, the 2005 Pakistan earthquake and the January 2010 Haiti earthquake. According to statistics,death toll has climbed over 1600 and almost 13 million people have been affected badly,but this number may vary as it is not really possible for people to count the casualties in this flood.Although the authorities are struggling to help victims of the flooding but the Pakistan military has taken the lead in relief efforts.

Pakistan Army continues its tireless rescue operations in the flood hit areas of Sindh, Punjab, FATA, Khyber Pakhtunkhaw(KPK) and Northern Areas.Boats and helicopters are being used in rescue and relief operations.Troops are busy day and night to evacuate the people from the flood affected areas and have succeeded in rescuing more than 1,75,000 people. Army Flood Control Centers have been established at several  areas to collect aid from other organizations for further dispatch to the flood hit areas.Besides cooked food packets, ready to eat meals are also being distributed amongst the affectees.Army Field Hospitals and number of free Medical Camps are working at KPK, Sindh and Punjab to provide health care facilities to patients of flood affected areas. Mobile clinics in collaboration with civil administration have been made functional.Water purification plants are being installed at Nowshera and Charsada. Army Engineers are working hard to repair damaged bridges in KPK and FATA. Repair of Bridge at Bagh Dheri, Swat,Hazara Bridge in Mingora and Ali Masjid Bridge in Khyber Agency on Pak-Torkham road has been completed and opened for traffic.Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is paying visits to the flood affected areas of Balochistan, Sindh and southern parts of Punjab and is  making sure that army reach out to all those who have been affected by the floods.

We all should appreciate the efforts of the field formations and Army Aviation, who are working day and night and at full capacity to provide relief to the affected countrymen and I salute the courage of Pakistan army and feel proud to be part of them.
